2019 was a busy year for Vietnamese football. Besides the SEA Games, we also have to attend the 2022 World Cup qualifiers.
This is a difficult playground for the Vietnamese team when we have to be in the same group with strong opponents such as: UAE, Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia.
Although knowing this is a difficult group, VFF still set the target of winning tickets for the Vietnamese team.
VFF Vice President Tran Quoc Tuan affirmed:
“It can be said that, as soon as the draw ended, the atmosphere in Malaysia was very happy. All countries were surprised when the top 4 teams of the region were in the table.
All countries share Vietnam’s table with no weak teams. While the UAE is a team close to the continent. In addition, the Southeast Asian teams understand each other very well, which is why this group promises many surprises.
Our immediate goal is to try to play well every game. Accumulating points after each game is very important. Away and home games must take advantage of opportunities.
Hopefully, we try to reach the 3rd qualifying round of Asia. Because the teams entering the third qualifying round will be able to attend the Asian Cup finals in China. This is what we expect and hope the whole team will realize this goal.”
This is considered a completely feasible goal for the Vietnamese team. Because opponents in Southeast Asia were once defeated by coach Park Hang Seo and his students.
Meanwhile, the number 1 seed team, the UAE, also has a level that is not too different from us.
If they play to their own capacity, Vietnam can win tickets to go on to the best second-place teams, or even the top of the group.
