Emerson Palmieri leaves Chelsea for Lyon

Emerson moved to Lyon on loan because it was not part of coach Tuchel’s plans for the 2021/22 season.

Emerson has not been able to play regularly during his time at Chelsea since moving to 2018. And the Italian has decided to leave Chelsea to join Lyon on loan. It is known that Lyon will have the option to buy Emerson outright next year.


Emerson left Chelsea for Lyon

The Lyon side has officially confirmed this deal on the homepage: “Olympique Lyonnais announced the loan of defender and two European Cup winners (with Italy and Chelsea), Emerson Palmieri until June 30, 2022. This loan has a fee of 500,000 euros, with a maximum of 500,000 euros in additional fees, including an option to buy out.

Olympique Lyonnais welcomes Emerson, the third Italy international in the club’s history after Fabio Grosso and Mattia de Sciglio.”

Emerson has made just 71 appearances for Chelsea over the past three and a half years. He was only kicked as a substitute after Marcos Alonso and Ben Chilwell. The 27-year-old player has only 2 goals and 5 assists, but with the London team won the Europa League, Champions League and European Super Cup.

Emerson is the fourth player in the Chelsea first team to be sent on loan this season. Before that, Billy Gilmour, Batshuayi and Kennedy had all left Stamford Bridge temporarily.

Meanwhile, Olivier Giroud, Victor Moses and Tammy Abraham have been sold off by Chelsea. It is expected that there will be more deals to liquidate Chelsea players from now until the end of the season. Kurt Zouma, Danny Drinkwater, Ross Barkley and Tiemoue Bakayoko may all have to leave because they are not part of coach Tuchel’s plans.
