Chelsea defender Emerson Palmieri has joined Lyon on loan for the remainder of the season.
Lyon will pay a loan fee of up to £1m for the 27-year-old Italian, who can play at left-back or full-back.
Emerson came on from the bench in last Saturday’s Premier League opener against Crystal Palace, his 71st Chelsea appearance.
He joined the Blues from Roma in the winter transfer window of 2018 for an initial price of 17.6 million pounds excluding fees. At Chelsea, Emerson won the Champions League, Europa League, European Super Cup and FA Cup, but had to miss the starting spot with Marcos Alonso and then Ben Chilwell.
Emerson was part of the Italian squad that won Euro 2020 this summer and started the final against England at Wembley.
He made four appearances in Europe’s most prestigious competition, becoming Italy’s trusted left-back after Roma’s Leonardo Spinazzola was injured in the quarter-final win over Belgium.
Meanwhile, AC Milan are said to be close to reaching an agreement to sign Chelsea’s Tiemoue Bakayoko after holding a meeting with his agent in Milan on Thursday.
